Sydney’s Villawood Detention Centre is in big trouble yet again.
The privately-owned centre is under investigation after 17 inmates came dangerously close to escaping the compound.

New statistics reveal Australian net migration is in sharp decline, dropping 46 per cent over the past two years.
This might be cause for concern given Australia’s shortages of skilled workers and international students.
But the Australian government doesn’t seem to think so. A new Australian immigration blog says the decline is part of a renewed focuss on quality over quantity.

A new Australian show seeks to answer these questions by looking past the political issues and focusing on the journey of the refugees.
“Go Back to Where You Came From” is a three-part series which takes six ordinary Australians and sends them on the journey of a typical refugee – from fleeing their dangerous homeland to arriving in Australia via rickety boat and being held in the uncertainty of immigration detention. The term “illegal immigrant” has been the subject of much controversy in recent years. Overused by anti-immigration campaigners, the term has become a propaganda tool. Not only does it paint immigrants in a negative light, the term is inaccurate and misleading.
Now Australia is taking action against the term, holding media outlets accountable for their unwarranted use of “illegal immigrants” and its derivatives.
The US should take notice. The rampant overuse of the term by the country’s media outlets has only served to cloud the country’s on-going immigration debate.
