Did you both not have visas? If you were let through when the paperwork was exactly the same I'd agree that it was a bit iffy.
There are other considerations however such as employment in Australia, ties etc and likelihood that he would overstay his visitor visa.

I arrived at heathrow airport with my partner only to find out I (lucky white australian) to be allowed in swiftly while my partner(part white and indonesian) with australian passport(non visa national) refused entry.we were forced to cancel our short visit to UK and leave within 24hrs.
UK border agency's main job is to stop non-whites from coming to the UK by all means.my advice to asians and africans is to avoid travelling to the UK .this is an open secret

I'm lilly white and was treated like a criminal going into Manchester. I answered all their questions, but they didn't like my answers. I'm an American citizen and I wouldn't ever try to stay in the UK. Why is the amount of money in my bank account any business of the British Government? When I told the agent what I do for a living, he wanted to know what a typical day on my job is like. Wanted me to tell him. Well, I don't have typical days at work because I do different things every day. He works for his government and does the same thing every day. I work for mine and work at a much higher level. All his ridiculous questions nearly made me miss my friend who was waiting outside to give me a ride to her house.

A family friend who is transgendered and a US citizen has just been denied entry for a holiday staying with our family. The reason given was "insufficient ties to the US" based on the fact that her mother and father are divorced and her mother who she lives with is in a low income job!

She was detained 4 hours with out me being called and I only managed to find out she was being held when I called the phone next to information at terminal four. after another two hours they called me on my mobile and asked about her family history, who was supporting her here, how close we were, how many emails had she sent me on average in a week, how many times I had met her family, how long had I stayed with them, what do I do for a living, how much do I earn!!

I wont go on about the trauma she suffered while she was detained but suffice to say the male officer was obviously phobic about her and was very "rude and angry" I eventually managed to speak with him by phone and he treated me like a criminal.

I have now seen the report by the officer for the reason to deny entry and it is a complete piece of fiction. They took my answers and twisted them so they were nothing like I had actually said. They then told her our "stories didn't match" and she was obviously intending to over stay.

I am very angry about this experience and believe these people just make it up as they go along. She also told me that like the girl in the youtube clip said all the people were either coloured or whites who are "different" that were detained with her.

I was in UK for 3+ years doing my college. After completing college I left UK to US now I am a Green card holder in USA. MY Sister lives and works in UK (is a PR) and my parents went to visit her from India and there my dad fell ill and hospitalized and was his condition was bad. So they called me to go there, so I found the ticket the same day and left to UK. (had a valid six months visit visa).

At Heathrow, I was thinking because I had multiple previous entries to UK, it may be little easy to get out. BUT same as other fellow victims here I have been through the worst time in my entire life along with the pain that my dad is in critical condition and with fear that they going to send me back with out letting me see my dad.

I faced harassment and insults every time I entered UK but never felt this hurt. They not only insulted and humiliated me but also insulted my entire family. I was so angry and intimidated and almost lost control but did not react out only because I wanted to get out there and see my dad.

Their questions were how do I know your story is true? How do I know that you going to leave UK after what you are saying you came for? I asked them back 'Why should I lie something like this? especially when I have all the rights to visit UK with out any reason. The visa I had was a 6 months multiple entry taken before this incident came up... Also if I wanted to stay back why did I leave UK after all my 6 previous entries??? They collected all information including the hospital details where my dad was. and went to verify and took two hours to get back to me. That ill hearted Officer did not stop there. the first question he asked after verifying everything I told is ' So, your dad came here to visit Or get treated on our government expense??? Your Father had this condition even before he comes to UK (that's the biggest discovery he did when he called hospital to verify). So what is he trying to say if somebody have a health condition they can not travel to UK? The truth is that they admitted my dad to the hospital only after taking GBP 2500 as a deposit + my sister had to give her credit card to cover any expense after that amount. He also passed a few comments, what ever he could say to humiliate me and to show that if he is allowing me to enter UK its only his kindness not because I have rights or I am eligible and also wanted to give me the message that DO NOT COMEBACK EVER TO UK. Finally after 4 and a half hours they let me pass through immigration. By that time I was fully exhausted and felt like passed through hell. Sadly the next day my dad passed away...

Like a person posted a comment here 'JOHN', who is proud of these immigration officers, I think is fully qualified to be an immigration officer...

I think They are a bunch of scared chickens, who are racist, rude and egoistic. Does all these out of fear.

Comparing to these bunch of racist officers, USA BSF is much better. Especially if you are GC holder they treat you like a Citizen (at least they know that we have same right as others), you have to go through only what US citizens have to go though.

I had my visit entry clearance in my passport despite being a non-visa national from Mauritius. I did not get any problem, it took me just 2-3 minutes. Questions the guy at Heathrow asked me

"Why are you here?" I AM ON VACATION,
"Are you travelling alone?" YES,
"Are you meeting anyone here?" NO,
"How long will you staying there?" 10 DAYS.

Then he let me in without any further questions. Simple straightforward answers.

So it is better you take your UK entry clearance in your country of residence before going to UK as tourist.

I travel once a year and albeit a foreigner, I am a full UK taxpayer and contribute to the society. UK Borders Agency has always been rude and it's has been the norm and I kinda get used to it. From chucking my passport on the table to asking my mum "So what do you do as a postwoman?".

All I can advise is this. Don't be friendly to them. Don't smile. In fact just don't show any expression on your face and remain cool. Answer their questions in simple form. E.g. What are you doing here? "Work". What do you do? "Consultant". Have you got a Visa? "Yes". If they piss you off and give you barriers when clearly you should be allowed in legally then you just say "Do I need to call my lawyer?". They will let you in.

The above advise also goes in dealing with police force (another people that I never trust). Don't get angry and DO NOT SWEAR OR YELL(they can arrest you). Don't give them excuse to place charge against you.

Bottomline is that if you done nothing wrong, you don't need to be afraid of them and remember, you pay their salaries. So don't get too stress about it when they are rude. It's not worth it.

Hi Nasha

If you were in the place of that girl in the video below, do you think you would be allowed entry? Do you think you would be treated so well? I think that is quite shocking what I've seen in that video.
