The Speed Series Part Deux
Getting through the job interview.
So you have followed the Global Visas guide to getting a job interview, now what you don’t want to do is mess it up.

- Any questions? We’ve all been there, when it comes to that point in the interview where the employer turns to you with their tired and work etched face, the smell of stale coffee emanating from their mouth has just about become bearable but your mind goes blank. This is number uno to avoid doing, you need to jump at this opportunity, if you can’t think of something then you’re not the candidate for them. You need to be firing off stuff like, what’s the culture like here? or what do you expect of me by the end of the first year. Failing in this, although you might think is passable, the employer won’t really remember you. A question NOT to ask at the end of the interview is where’s the toilet?
- Weaknesses, this question is a favourite among interviewers. The advice of offering up the explanation that you are a ‘perfectionist’ and so can take longer on tasks resulting in it being a weakness isn’t going to wash. If you can’t be honest now, then what is the employer going to think of your character? Don’t bs them, be honest, but not too honest. Don’t tell them that you have a chronic gambling problem and are bone idle, sugar coat it so it sounds believable but not verging on reprehensible.
- Phoning after the interview, ok technically not ‘during’ but hey I’m bone idle and there’s a horse I like in the 4.15, which is 10 minutes away. Phoning and pestering the HR department is not going to help the cause, especially if he/she has already told you that they will let you know. Don’t mess your chances up by being a maniac.
This is the ‘Global Visas speed series’ I hope this post has lived up to its name. Good luck.
