UK immigration accused of harassment… again
In Sundays News of the World I read an article about UK immigration staff at the UK Border Agency using social network sites such as Facebook and MySpace to boast about their abuse of power on highly skilled immigrants and students coming into the country on UK visas.
The article was brief with few column inches but this didn’t detract from the shame some of the staff have once again brought on the Home Office.
The article said staff boasted about interrogating individuals from India, Pakistan and other neighbouring countries and abusing their powers.
In the Times of India today reads another article about Indians complaining about harassment from UK immigration officials.
On this occasion Dr Sujit Nair, a doctor working for the NHS for the past 9 years was interrogated at Glasgow Airport despite the fact he has Indefinite Leave to Remain (permanent residence).
In a statement from the HSMP, Amit Kapadia, Director of the not-for-profit organisation representing HSMP visa holders in the UK said immigration officials are being given absolute power to question legitimate hard working migrants based on suspicion alone and without any reasonable doubt.
“We are in the process of taking appropriate action to resolve this problem. Meanwhile, we would request those individuals who encounter any problem at airports without a valid reason to get in touch with us,” said Mr Kapadia.
If the UKBA aren’t careful they are going to get a reputation similar to that of the BNP.
Have you had a similar experience with the UKBA, leave your comments on the Global Visas blog.
