UK immigration minister rules out Burka ban

The UK immigration minister, Damian Green, yesterday announced that the United Kingdom would not be following in the footsteps of european counterparts France and Belguim in a banning on those wearing burka’s in public.

In what can only be seen as a public sign of support for the Muslim population living in the UK, Mr Green made the point that a ban would a ‘very unbritish’ thing to do, while also commenting on France’s style of democracy.

Even though a yougov survey had reported that 68% of those polled would like to see a banning of the full faced veil in public, the coalition government ruled that they would not be issuing instructions on what can and cannot be worn by followers of the Muslim faith.

Mr Green also took the opportunity to confirm that an UK immigration amnesty would not be happening under the current government, and that his Liberal Democrat colleagues had been fully informed of this news. This will come as a disappointment to many of those that read this blog, as we have been ardent supporters of this Liberal Democrats proposed policy since it’s inception.
