Australian student visas highly sought by Indians

Australia may be tightening the reins on immigration, but that hasn’t stopped record numbers of Indian nationals applying the Australian student visas.

A former education officer for the Australian High Commission in New Delhi, Gulshan Kumar, predicts that the number of Indian students moving to Australia will continue to rise.

The popularity of emigrating to Australia for university study can, according to Kumar, be attributed both to the high standard of the educational system and the enviable lifestyle enjoyed by Australian residents.

In an interview with Merinews, Kumar said: "The word of mouth is so strong for Australia, that it has become one of the most favourable destinations for students. There are no Oxfords and Harvards in Australia, but there are eight universities out of a total of 41 which can be compared with any world class universities, and all of them are considered to be in the top 100 universities in the world."

Australia was the first country to introduce legislative protection rights for international students and also to set out the legal obligations of educational establishments to international students.
