UK visa: Lord Navnot Dholakia

Indian business visitors should be able to obtain UK visas at short notice, says Liberal Democrat MP, Lord Navnot Dholakia.

Speaking during a debate on 'British Opportunity in India and Indian Investment in the United Kingdom', Dholakia said that bilateral trade between the two countries is currently being negatively impacted by UK visa policy.

The ability to obtain a business visa or a temporary work visa at short notice would allow Indian business people to explore more commercial opportunities in the UK, thus boosting potential investment, says Dholakia.

He added that business people are often pushed for time and if UK visas were available quickly more productive business trips would take place. He said, “we should make sure that business visitors and senior providers are facilitated to travel to the UK to explore business opportunities and business contracts…Would not the Minister accept that timelines are short in the business world?"

Delivery of IT industry services, which requires personnel to be able to move around at short notice, is particularly impacted by the current long waits for visas.
