A top student visa expert in India believes the growing number of international students wanting to move to Australia will continue to rise as more return to full-time education when faced with redundancy.
Gulshan Kumar, a former Education Officer with the Australian High Commission, says Australia is an ideal choice for international student visa holders because the recession has not affected it as severely as other western countries.
“The number of Indian students going to Australia is still increasing, in fact, I think these numbers may go higher, as many of the students who have lost their jobs in India would like to avail this opportunity to upgrade their education and skill level,” said Kumar.
The education system in Australia is growing in popularity amongst many professional Indians, with Australian immigration welcoming foreign nationals under a variety of student visa categories.
“[Australia] offers all that an international student wants from overseas education. It is the first country to bring the legislation not only to protect the rights of the international students, but also to specify the obligations of the education providers in Australia.”
Similar to the UK, Australian immigration allows for student visa holders to work full-time when semester is not in session and up to 20 hours during term-time, an important factor to consider when planning to study abroad.
Australia also boasts several universities listed in the top 100 worldwide.
“The word of mouth is so strong for Australia, that it has become one of the most favourable destinations for students,” added Kumar.
