Australian immigration department is finalist for e-government award

The Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) has been told it has made the shortlist for the e-Awards for Excellence in e-Government services for three online facilities put in place to help people who are moving to Australia.
Relocating to Australia continues to be an attractive option for many from Asia and Europe, increasingly so during the current economic downturn. In response to demand, the Australian immigration department has introduced several online services that help people make their visa applications and apply for Australian citizenship.
The department has been nominated for its Visa Wizard service, its Citizenship Wizard and its eVisitor service. The DIAC says the online services provide easy access to information for those looking to move to Australia, study in Australia or work in Australia.
A spokesperson said, “people no longer need to sift through the entire website looking for information that is relevant to them, which was often found in multiple locations.”
The spokesperson added that the wizards help to save time and resources at the department itself, “people can quickly and easily find routine visa and citizenship pre-lodgement information without contacting a departmental office or call centre.”
The DIAC claims that usage of the three wizards, which were launched in October 2008, has exceeded expectations by more than 50%.
