Australian immigration has increased by 15 per cent from the same time last year.
Data from the Bureau of Statistics in Australia shows that 510,564 migrants immigrated to Australia in the year leading up to June 2009. This resulted in an increase in the amount of people arriving in Australia by approximately 15 per cent.
Australia’s growth is put at 2.07 per cent or 443,139, this is still largely attributed to immigration into Australia, accounting for two-thirds of the growth.
There has also been a recent baby-boom in the country, 300,000 new babies being born last year and the nation’s fertility rate rising to 1.98, however Australian immigration still remains the core area of growth.
Of the territories, Western Australia saw the largest increase in inhabitants at 3.03 percent. It was also reported that Melbourne is growing considerably, its population reaching 4million people and 2000 new immigrants arriving every week.
