Chris Evans changes Australia visa
In a move intended to ensure Australian work permit visa holders get paid the going rate for the job they are doing, new measures are being introduced by the country’s immigration minister, Chris Evans.
Temporary Australia visa holders are set to benefit from the new rules, which are for employers of overseas workers. Many of these firms are in the IT sector and there have been fears that they pay foreign workers a lower wage than locals.
As the Australian economy begins its recovery from the global economic downturn, demand for extra temporary skilled workers in certain industries is expected to increase. The tightening of the rules for employing such workers is being timed to coincide with this expected boom in demand for skilled workers from abroad.
The rules now state that where an Australian worker is doing a similar role, the foreign employee must be paid the same as him or her.
This now means that skilled foreigners wishing to move to Australia are likely to be presented with an even larger range of jobs and can rest assured that they will receive a fair wage for their efforts.
