Bin Laden's son fails to gain UK visa
December 04 2009 by Liam Clifford
Osama Bin Laden’s son Omar has been refused a UK visa to enable him to get married in the UK.
It has
been announced that an appeal by the 28-year-old Saudi national has been
rejected by the Asylum and Immigration Tribunal. Omar Bin Laden wants to move to
the UK to be with 54-year-old Jane Felix-Browne, who he claims is his wife.
His appeal has been rejected because the relationship was not seen as
genuine and the tribunal was doubtful whether he really wanted to marry
Felix-Browne in the UK, under UK law. The Tribunal said he was still in a
relationship with his first wife, which shed doubt on his case.
In
addition, it is not surprising that UK immigration officials said his presence in the UK was
“undesirable.” The tribunal’s deputy president Mark Ockelton said he was
“concerned” that Omar did not think his father was a
terrorist.
Felix-Browne has herself been married five times before and
joined Bin Laden in his appeal, which was based on the claim that refusing him a UK visa breached their human rights. They were married in Egypt in 2006, but the
marriage is not recognised in the UK as they were both still married at the
time. The two are both still married to their previous spouses.
