Brisbane popular among Brits moving to Australia

Forget Melbourne and Sydney, Brisbane is now emerging as the latest hotspot for young Brits moving to Australia to start a new life down under.

Record numbers of immigrants are choosing Brisbane as their new home, according to new figures. NatWest’s Quality of Life index discovered that one in every ten people in Brisbane is a Brit.

Australians often view Brisbane, and the wider Queensland area, as its version of Florida – and young British people are flocking there attracted by the warm weather and the wealth of opportunities offered in the city.

Jacqui Bird, a UK expat that had recently moved to Australia said, "The best thing has been having my children and raising them here - being able to provide things, for example private education, that I don't think I would have been able to do in the UK. I think I've given them a better life."

Others claim it is Brisbane’s proximity to the Gold Coast, with its golden beaches and beautiful sunshine that lured them to the city.

Brisbane is now the fastest growing city in Australia in terms of population, and it’s easy to see why Brits continue to move there in such vast numbers.
