Brits move to New Zealand as eco-migrants
April 06 2009 by Liam Clifford
As people grow more concerned about the long-term impact of climate change, some are opting to emigrate to locations considered more ‘green,’ with many opting to move to New Zealand.
Eco immigrants are a new breed but are likely to grow in numbers as people search for a better future for their families in the face of global warming.
New Zealand is famous for having lots of wide, open spaces and plenty of room for its population to thrive and grow. Its environment is clean and its climate is temperate, which means it will be less affected, initially, by climate change.
Although climate change is unlikely to fundamentally change the planet for many years, people are beginning to pre-empt these problems and consider living in New Zealand to be a smart move for their family’s future welfare.
There are immediate benefits to moving to New Zealand to consider as well, such as cleaner air, more green spaces, cheaper property and less traffic congestion.
Scientists also agree that New Zealand should withstand global warming better than many other nations, due to its location on the globe and its temperate climate. However, it may be better to move sooner than later, as others are bound to catch on.
