Move to Canada and enjoy the Canada Line
The Canada Line, a brand new 19km rail-based rapid transit system is opening today.
The $2 billion Canada Line will take 200,000 cars off the road everyday, or 6000 people per hour. It is the equivalent of a 10 lane freeway.
The Canada Line connects Vancouver with Richmond and Vancouver Airport. It will supplement a new cyclist and pedestrian bridge that crosses the River Fraser.
The new rapid rail system will be a reduce the heavily congested and often gridlocked road system in the area. It will also offer a more efficient means for commuters who work in Canada.
TransLink spokesman Ken Hardie said: "[The Canada Line] is going to have the capacity to move a very large number of people in a reliable travel time. When it has its own right of way, it's not subject to traffic congestion."
Tax payers will have to subsidise the Canada Line for the next four years until the goal of 100,000 passengers per day is reached.
The Canada Line will have knock-on effects on other transportation in the area by freeing up more buses for more frequent service among south Surrey, Delta, White Rock and Richmond.
Immigrants looking to move to Canada will reap the benefits of the Canada Line.
