Canadian immigration and investment popular with Chinese

Canada has already been named the third most popular holiday destination for Chinese people, just weeks after the two nations finalised the Approved Destination Status agreement.
A survey released yesterday, which interviewed 1,080
people living in various regions in China, found that Australia was the most
popular holiday destination for Chinese people, followed by Shanghai and Canada
in second and third place respectively.
Countries with approved
destination status get more visitors as Chinese tour operators can organise tour
groups to those countries. Traditionally, countries who receive the status
receive 40 per cent more Chinese tourists within the first year, rising to 50
per cent within two years.
Australia has had approved destination status
since 1999 and has enjoyed large visitor numbers from China. According to the
new survey, which was carried out jointly by Vancouver’s SUCCESS Foundation, the
Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada and EMR International, found that Canada is
now named a desired destination by 13 per cent of Chinese holiday
makers.
Yuen Pau Woo, the head of the Asia Pacific Foundation, stated
that many Chinese people already study in Canada or have made the move to Canada for
work or investment purposes. He said, "It is this unique connection that we have
because of immigration, because of tourists, because of students, because of
business ties, that puts Canada, I think, in a unique competitive position to
build stronger relations with China.”
