Canada Immigration Minister chooses appointees
Two Indo-Canadians have been appointed to the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) by Canadian immigration minister Jason Kenney.
Noeline Sujuthra Paul and Vandana Patel are members of the Indo-Canadian community and will be reporting to the Canadian Parliament in their new roles. The Toronto office will be receiving the two new appointees to the IRB.
Patel has served as a legal officer for the UN, has 10 years of experience with refugees and immigration as well as a BA in International Relations. Paul used to be the Board Director for Defence for Children International Canada and before that worked with refugees from Iraq.
They will be involved with making decisions on refugee claims, hearing Canada visa appeals and dealing with people held in detention as part of the Immigration and Refugee protection act.
The IRB is an independent tribunal that was created in 1999. Patel and Pauls terms will last for three years and were made using the merit-based appointment process.
