Canadian immigration data to be made more available
March 18 2010 by Liam Clifford
Canada’s Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney has announced that, as of today, Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) will now post its most requested statistics on Canada visas on a quarterly basis on its website.
Mr. Kenney hopes the move will provide timely, up-to-date
information for people who want to find out about the latest trends in Canadian
visas and immigration: “We are demonstrating our commitment to transparency and
open government by ensuring that our most requested data is up-to-date, easily
accessible and posted in a timely manner,” he said.
Mr. Kenney added:
“This will ensure that anyone who would like this data can access it for free
whenever they want it, without having to make an Access to Information request.
By sharing this information proactively on a regular basis, Canadians will have
the information they need readily available.”
The statistics that will be
published on the website related to developments in Canadian citizenship and
immigration processes, such as how many economic class and family class Canadian
visa applications have been processed in the previous quarter.
Available
data on the website will also include citizenship statistics, processing times
for Canadian visa applications, and inventories.
