Canadian immigration welcomes Mohamud
A Canadian citizen, who was wrongly imprisoned by Kenyan immigration officials after her lips looked different to her passport photograph, is to be allowed to return home.
Somalian-born Suaad Hagi Mohamud as accused of being an imposter when she tried to board a flight back to Canada after visiting her mother in Kenya for two weeks. She was detained in a Nairobi prison and was not allowed to leave Kenya for three months.
The 31-year old had a DNA test to prove her identification was genuine, which caused a delay in the court cause. The results have proven her to be 99.9% likely to be the mother of her 12 year old son in Canada, which also means she definitely is who she says she is.
The lawyer of Mohamud is going to file a motion in Federal Court for an emergency passport to be issued so that she can return home now that her identity has been proven. He says, in the best case scenario, she will be able to move to Canada again this Sunday where she will be welcomed by Canadian immigration.
