Gideon Albert gets his Canada visa

A husband and wife who have not seen each other in five years, due to problems with visas, have finally heard that they will be reunited.

Rose Albert was married to Gideon Albert, a Nigerian national, in 2004 but the couple have been apart ever since as Gideon has not been able to acquire a Canadian visa.

The couple applied for a Canadian visa to allow Mr Albert to live in Canada with his Canadian wife in 2004, but their visa application was rejected. They then won the right to re-apply, although the process has taken years to complete.

Rose says that Canadian visa officials in Nigeria thwarted their attempts to obtain a visa for Mr Albert every step of the way. Canadian immigration based in Lagos said they had high case-volumes but the Alberts claim the delay was linked to the 20-year age difference between them.

However, yesterday they received the news that the visa had been granted. Mrs Albert stated, “We’re all done. He’s going to get his visa and he’s going to move to Canada.”

Canadian immigration has given Mr Albert 60 days to pick up his visa from his nearest office in Ghana and move to Canada.
