Canada to fast-rack visa applications for Filipino's affected by typhoon.
The
Canadian government's decision to fast-track Canada immigration and visa applications
for Philippines citizens affected by Typhoon Ketsana has been praised by
individuals living in Canada.
Canadian immigration minister Jason Kenney
introduced the measures last month, applying them to new and existing
applications from Canadian citizens, permanent residents and protected
individuals with close family members in the Philippines.
The family of
civil engineer Felipe Macabenta was just one among many who suffered when the
typhoon caused chaos in Luzon. The 48-year-old described the special Canadian
immigration measures for Philippine typhoon victims as "one of a
kind".
He told reporters from the PhilBoxing website that the move will
help to expedite the Canadian visas of his wife and two children.
"Pretty
soon, we will be united here and I can guarantee the bright future of my
children, thanks to the programme initiated by the Canadian government," he
commented.
Insurance executive Reynaldo Fortaleza further praised
Canadian immigration officials, noting that typhoon victims have "plenty of jobs
and opportunities" to faciliate living and working in Canada when they arrive.
The Canadian visa office in the Philippines continues to deal with
Philippines citizens' applications to live in Canada on a priority basis.
