Changes to Australian immigration rules for citizenship
March 24 2010 by Liam Clifford
The number of Australian business visas that will be issued this year has been capped at 6,530. The Australian Immigration and Citizenship Department has also announced a change in the requirements for Australian citizenship.
Applications for (Business) Australian visas are currently
still being accepted, but the number of applications is likely to reach the
maximum in the near future. When that happens, no more applications will be
considered until after 30th June 2010.
The cap on business visas will
affect the following subclasses:
* 132 Business Talent visa
* 160
Business Owner visa
* 161 Senior Executive visa
* 162 Investor visa
*
163 State Sponsored Business Owner visa
* 164 State Sponsored Senior
Executive visa
* 165 State Sponsored Investor visa
The change to
Australian citizenship law means that everyone over the age of 16 who wants to
apply must be able to show that they have been living in Australia for four
consecutive years with no more than a year’s absence from the country during
that time.
The change has come about as a result of a clamp-down on
applications from individuals who travel outside of Australia for prolonged
periods whilst attempting to fulfill the residency requirements of Australian
citizenship.
