Changes to UK visa sponsorship policy

January 26 2010 by Liam Clifford

The UK Border Agency’s sponsorship management system is being adjusted on 22 February 2010.

The IT system is used by sponsors, who are supporting overseas workers and students to work and study in the UK.

Following consultation with stakeholders and sponsors, the changes are being introduced in order to enhance the system.

From 22 February, A-grade sponsors under Tier 2 of the UK points based system can bring in a foreign worker on a UK visa and sponsor him/her so that they will not claim support from public funds.

In addition, Tier 2 and Tier 5 sponsors will be able to use the IT system to create and pay for sponsorship certificates in batches. They will also be able to input an individual’s details into a single certificate based on a previous certificate. In addition a sponsor’s level 1 user will be able to transfer group, batch or single certificates between the users.

Other changes to the UK immigration sponsorship management system include an additional facility for Tier 2, 4 and 5 sponsors to send a ‘sponsor note’ which will inform the UK immigration department about minor changes to a certificate or a confirmation of acceptance for studies. This can then be used to assess a UK visa application from the sponsored party.

The need to re-input data will also be reduced due to a new feature that will enable Tier 2,4 and 5 UK visa sponsors to input details of group or batch certificates based on the information in previous certificates.
