Chinese students on UK visas
Thousands of Chinese students are considering studying abroad as it becomes easier and less expensive to do so.
According to a report on China.org, studying abroad is an attractive option for many young Chinese students who have just completed and passed their College Entrance Examination earlier in June.
Admission requirements are becoming less stringent in several countries and foreign currencies have depreciated in value compared to the Chinese Yuan. As a result, studying abroad is now a realistic option for many Chinese students.
Deputy Director of Canadian Education Center, Shi Jingjing, said that studying abroad may be much cheaper this year, "compared with last year, the foreign currency devaluated almost 30 to 40 percent. So it is worthwhile for Chinese students to study abroad now, saving around 30 percent of the cost."
Liang Wen, the CEO at China International Education Information Net, says that studying on a UK visa or a US visa are always the most popular options for Chinese students wanting to work abroad. In the first half of last year, applications to study on UK visas increased by 46%, compared to the same period the year before.
In 2008, over 80,000 Chinese students applied for a US visa to study, up around 20% on the previous year. The figures for 2009 are expected to reach a new peak.
