Muralitharan - UK Work Permit

Legendary Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan will play domestic cricket in the UK this season after successfully applying for a UK work permit.

The spinner had signed with Gloucestershire to represent the team in the Friends Life t20 competition this year.

His signing depended on whether he could obtain a UK working visa, however newly-introduced immigration laws shrouded his case in uncertainty.

Fortunately, the 39 year-old’s visa was eventually granted, leaving him free to join Gloucestershire in June.

Muralitharan’s manager, Kushil Gunasekera, told the AFP that his client “wishes to thank the British authorities for quickly issuing him with a visa”.

Muralitharan recently retired from international cricket, having played his last game for Sri Lanka in the World Cup final against India last month.
