Some 13 organisations that help prepare immigrants for US citizenship are to receive $1.2 million in funding from the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
The announcement was made on Constitution Day and Citizenship Day (17 September) by the USCIS’s director, Alejandro Mayorkas. He said, “We are proud to support our new grantees.” He continued, “in the spirit of Constitution Day and Citizenship Day, I am pleased to announce that we will be working with these organizations to help immigrants pursue citizenship and become fully vested members of their communities.”
Each recipient supports people who are applying for citizenship, which allows them to emigrate to the US permanently with their dependents and spouses. The recipients help people to settle in the US and become full members of their communities.
The services offered by the recipients of the grant include language skills training, preparation guidance to the naturalisation application and interview and providing information about US government and history.
The recipients have been chosen as organisations that provide services for one or more of the priority immigrant groups based in regions of the US with larger immigrant populations that, therefore, need extra services.
