March 26 2010 by Liam Clifford
A series of awards have been given to organisations in Canada that have helped to integrate skilled Canadian work visa holders into the Toronto Region labour market.
The Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council (TRIEC) and RBC
have announced the winners of the 4th annual Immigrant Success (IS) Awards, to
reward innovation and leadership in facilitating skilled immigrants to secure
appropriate work in Canada.
Among the companies to win awards were:
computer manufacturing company Samtack; mailstream technology company Pitney
Bowes; St. Michael's Hospital; and law firm Fraser Milner Casgrain
LLP.
Zabeen Hirji, Chief Human Resources Officer of RBC and Co-Chair of
TRIEC said: "Vision, innovation, leadership and commitment set this year's
Immigrant Success Award winners apart from the rest. If Canada is to realize the
global advantage of its diversity and become the destination of choice for
professionals, skilled people, and entrepreneurs, we must do a better job of
helping new immigrants integrate into society and recognize their achievements
as well as their contributions to the prosperity of our country."
Elizabeth McIsaac, executive director, TRIEC, added that Toronto’s
future depended on companies that were forward-thinking enough to be proactive
in helping skilled immigrants fulfil their employment potential.
