A man trying to sell his disabled sister for a sham marriage has been arrested in Reading, England.

Michael Wright, 22, arranged the marriage for his 24-year-old sister to a Chinese man, 33-year-old Li Fan, who sought a UK visa through the union.

The woman and Fan were in the Reading Register Office in Berkshire, preparing to wed, when police overtook the building.

Wright, Li and two other Chinese men were arrested on the scene. Two more men named as accomplices are being held in custody. They all appeared at Reading Magistrates Court on Tuesday and face various UK immigration fraud and perjury charges.

The woman, whose identity is being protected, has been taken in by social services.
