Europe issues work visas for Indians
Although the demand for skilled young Indian immigrants has eased in the US, elsewhere the demand is still high, with plenty of work visas available for Indian workers looking to work in the UK and the rest of Europe.
The number of skilled USA work visas being obtained by US firms in order to attract Indian workers has dropped this fiscal year as a result of the recession. US protectionist measures have also prevented some firms from applying for work visas for immigrant staff as they used federal cash to bail themselves out.
As a result, the situation could be seen as bleak for young, highly skilled Indians wanting to work abroad. However, demand for such workers is still high in Europe. In addition, the outlook for Indian workers is also likely to improve, with more US visas likely to become available as the country drags itself out of the recession. The will result in the number of Indians working in the US, in industries like engineering and IT, increasing once more.
Mr G. Gurucharen, from the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA), said, “what we have found is that while immigrants in some geographies may be facing job losses, there are others where new opportunities are emerging.”
