Former South African cricket team coach wants to work in the UK
January 27 2010 by Liam Clifford
After resigning from his role as coach of the South Africa national cricket team, Mickey Arthur says he is ready to take a job working in the UK.
Arthur told a leading UK newspaperl on Monday, “I would love
a job in England.” The revelation comes after some of the more senior players in
the South African team lost confidence in him. After Captain Graeme Smith grew
increasingly concerned about Arthur’s performance, it was clear he had to go,
particularly following South Africa’s failed attempts to win the Champions
Trophy in September last year.
Arthur decided to resign in November after
his team settled for a 1-1 draw at home to the England team. However, it was
largely seen as a case of jumping before he was pushed.
The South African
team is now being managed by former fast bowler Corrie van Zyl and a possible
long-term coaching replacement option is former England cricketer Jeremy Snape.
Snape has been working in South Africa as the team’s performance coach. Other
possible replacements include former England coach Duncan Fletcher.
So,
it seems there will potentially be a big demand for South African work visas and
UK work visas for cricket coaches in the coming months.
