From today all skilled UK work visa holders must carry ID cards

From today, all skilled UK work visa holders must carry an ID Card for Foreign Nationals as part of UK immigration’s roll-out of the scheme.
Until today, holders of UK marriage visas and UK student visas were
required to carry the ID cards, which are intended to cut down on
immigration fraud and increase security.
Now, in addition to those studying in the UK and those married to a UK
national, all skilled workers, which includes professional sports men
and women and religious ministers, will have to apply for an ID card
when they renew their UK visas.
The ID cards hold a range of biometric information on the immigrant
working in the UK. The government has opened new biometric information
collection centres, as well as some collection centres in Post Offices
across the country, to deal with the increase in ID card applications.
The new rules will mean that famous foreign footballers, like Chelsea’s
Didier Drogba and Liverpool’s Fernando Torres, will have to carry ID
cards just like any other foreigner living in the UK on a skilled UK work
visa.
