Group of asylum seekers may be allowed to live in Australia

Australian visas may be issued to a group of asylum seekers who are currently being held in detention across various mainland locations.
On Saturday, a group of 89 failed asylum seekers were moved
from Christmas Island to Villawood in Sydney, and a further 51 detainees were
relocated to other mainland locations last week.
The asylum seekers have
been arriving at Christmas Island in boats, with 32 such vessels intercepted
since the beginning of the year. The Island has reached its detention capacity
of 2040 beds, which is why detainees are being moved to the mainland.
A
Department of Immigration spokesperson said there would be a large group of
detainees transferred to the mainland on Tuesday, and it is believed many of the
detainees have been granted Australian visas, which will allow them to continue
to live in Australia legally.
"There is going to be one tomorrow, but as
far as exact numbers go ... we couldn't confirm numbers probably until it's
closer to when it's actually happening tomorrow," the spokesperson said. "From
my understanding it will be a large group tomorrow."
Australian
Immigration Minister, Senator Chris Evans, has confirmed more asylum seekers
will be transferred to Australia in the coming months.
