Important changes to Australian visas

The recently announced changes to the Australian skilled migration program are to be explained in person to holders of Australian visas and their employers in Pilbara, North Western Australia.

Since January this year, there have been a number of changes to Australia immigration and the skilled migration program, including an announcement by Immigration Minister Chris Evans earlier this week that next year’s intake will be reduced to just 108,000 places.

An outreach officer from the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) is to run public information seminars in Pilbara to provide first-hand information and advice about the changes to the Australian visa programs and the 457 temporary business visa class.

A spokesperson from the DIAC explained why the Pilbara seminars had been arranged: "DIAC places great importance on providing services to regional areas and regular outreach visits are a large part of that," he said. "While the department has a great deal of information available over the phone or on the Internet, some people prefer to speak to officers face-to-face, and these visits are about meeting that need."

An information session will be held from 12.30-2.30pm on May 25th for employers, stakeholders and government agencies. Then at 5pm there will be a two hour information session for subclass 457 holders. This seminar will also address Australian citizenship and family migration matters.
