Increase US work visas or face brain drain

Gary Shapiro, the president and chief executive officer of the Consumer Electronics Association, has written an article in the Huffington Post claiming that foreign workers are essential to the US economy.
Shapiro says that the country’s ability to attract talent from abroad, particularly to work in the US technology sector is vital and that the government should be more concerned with boosting the numbers of skilled US work visas available, as opposed to reducing the quota.
He says that foreign-born technology engineers and entrepreneurs have helped create millions of jobs and have founded some of the largest companies in the world. He says, “Silicon Valley exemplifies an American success story threatened by a shift in how we treat the type of bright foreign-born technologists and entrepreneurs who help make us great.”
Shapiro agrees with other industry leaders who claim that the US will struggle to compete if it makes it even harder to attract and employ foreign engineers into the technology industry.
Attracting talented people to work in the US is essential to the country’s recovery after the recession, claims Shapiro. He adds, “to restore our economy, we need to do everything we can as a nation to attract the best and the brightest to come to the United States. Innovative immigrants have always been - and will continue to be - central to America's growth, job creation and global competitiveness.
