Australia tourism unveil plans to expand the Australian working holiday visa

The Australian Federal Tourism Minister, Martin Ferguson, has announced a new National Long-Term Tourism Strategy, which could see even larger numbers of young Brits heading to live in Australia for a period on a working holiday visa.

Australian working holiday visas are already extremely popular among British students. Many take the opportunity to work in Australia gaining vital skills that boost their CVs. They can also travel around the country on the same visas, using their temporary working income to fund their trip.

Now, the Long-Term Tourism Strategy looks like it will boost the up-take of these visas even further. Ferguson explained that the strategy involves investment of $8 million to boost tourism in the country.

Tourism is a $40 billion industry in Australia. The strategy will invest in improving infrastructure and boosting expertise and innovation in the industry to try to win back a higher percentage of the global travel market.

Fergus explained, “this strategy is not about new marketing campaigns, it’s about making sure Australia can meet the demand and the expectations created by our marketing. It is about ensuring we have the new product, the tourism infrastructure, and the skilled workforce we require.”
