Ireland’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Micheal Martin, has spoken about the success of the country’s working holiday visa arrangements with Australia and other nations.
He says that the arrangements have
given many young people the opportunity to live and work in Australia, the US,
Canada and other interesting countries around the world. He added, “Working
Holiday Agreements are a vital part of Ireland’s public diplomacy. Many
thousands of young Irish people have benefited greatly from the experience of
working and living in foreign countries.”
He continued to talk about how
the arrangements have also led to large numbers of foreign young people
experiencing life in Ireland in exchange. He said, “in turn, many young people
have visited Ireland and have acquired a life-long love of this country. I am
fully committed to these arrangements which are beneficial for the countries
involved.”
Over 400 Irish young people have utlised the new J1 visas that
allow them to live in the US for a period, while working temporarily to fund
their trip and gain valuable experience.
He also added that the Australian working holiday visa arrangement has been a particular success,
allowing young people to live in Australia for a year, extending their trip to
two years if they carry out work in certain industries or regions.
