Is Mel Gibson planning to move back to Australia?

July 21 2010 by Liam Clifford

Following accusations from his ex-girlfriend that he was violent towards her, film star Mel Gibson is rumoured to be planning to up sticks and move to Australia.

The disgraced star has reportedly sold his mansion near New York and is making plans to return to Australia, where he lived for many years before moving to the US. He is also thought to have put his Malibu home up for sale for £10 million.

Gibson grew up in Australia and moved to the US when he was 12.

Although rumours of the move are all over the internet, other sources are reporting that Gibson has denied the plans. The Sydney Morning Herald said that the actor’s representative stated, "There's no truth to the Mail story [that Gibson is moving to Australia]." He added that Gibson had been filming a project with Jodi Foster just two weeks ago in New York.

However, it still seems likely that Gibson may well be looking to return to his roots ‘Down Under’ to escape the media backlash that has resulted from claims that he punched his ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva.
