Kenyan couple look closer to gaining UK visas for sons
February 17 2010 by Liam Clifford
A Kenyan couple have moved a step further towards gaining UK visas for their sons to allow them to move to the UK.
Joseph and Christabel Lumbasi, who live in
Angus in Scotland, have been told by UK immigration that officials will
re-examine their case for their sons’ UK visa applications. The couple live in
the UK as a result of Mr Lumabasi having won a place at St Andrews University
three years ago.
Now, their case to bring their sons Lance and Leslie to
live in the UK with them has gained support from Angus MP Mike Weir who says the
hard-working couple are an “asset” to the area. He says the situation is
“ludicrous” and is calling upon UK immigration officials to grant the visas.
The couple are growing increasingly desperate as the 28-day appeals
deadline looms. They have appealed the initial rejection of the visa
applications based on a dispute over bank account levels, which are part of the
requirement when applying for residency.
Phil Taylor, regional director
of the UK Border Agency, said “we are happy to look again at any application
where the correct documents are subsequently supplied to us.” However, he added,
“the rules for those applying for UK visas for family members are clear and apply
to everyone fairly.”
