Long-time news anchor leaves CNN
November 12 2009 by Liam Clifford
The renowned anti-immigration news presenter, Ken Dobbs, has quit his post after nearly 30 years.
The outspoken CNN news presenter, Lou Dobbs, resigned yesterday in a surprise move. Dobbs, 64, had been with the US news broadcaster since it was first launched in 1980.
The long serving CNN anchor man had become an increasingly contentious figure in the eyes of the channels’ largely unbiased audience with his out-spoken opinions about US immigration.
His announcement last night came to many as a shock; Dobbs indicated during that speech that he was quitting CNN in order to gain more freedom in which to express his views, even hinting at a possible switch to politics.
His long-standing views on US immigration law are equally matched by his obscure rhetoric on other issues.
His contract with the broadcaster was not due to run-out until 2011. There has been speculation that Jonathan Klein, the president of CNN, had agreed to release Dodds early from the contract.
