Man marries his own daughter so she can get UK visa
November 19 2009 by Liam Clifford
Occupational health nurse who worked for the Home Office ties the knot with his daughter.
A Nigerian man from Dagenham Essex, ‘married’ his own daughter in a sham ceremony so she would then get a UK visa and the right to remain in the UK.
Jelili Adesanya, 54, has lived in the UK for the past 30 years and has even previously worked for the Home Office.
Mr Adesanya, who holds a British passport, conspired with his daughter to fake a wedding ceremony in Lagos, Nigeria, before fooling UK immigration officials into granting her permission to live in the UK.
They then planned to quietly divorce after his daughter, Karimotu Adenike, was granted the right to remain and live in he UK. It has also been uncovered that Miss Adenike was already married in Nigeria and has 4 children.
The peculiar arrangement was brought to the attention of the Home Office by a disgruntled acquaintance of the couple, who in his attempts to bring the pair to justice wrote first to the High Commission in Lagos and then the UK Border Agency, when no response was received, the prevailer of fairness sent further correspondence to the then Home Secretary Jacqui Smith and UK immigration ministers Vernon Coaker and Phil Woolas.
The Home Office and UK immigration say that they are now making enquires into the ‘husband and daughter’ couple and could not comment about an ongoing investigation.
