Medium sized businesses should target immigrants who have moved to Australia.

Employers interested in growing their business should look at Australian immigration for a solution, as more and more are eligible for working visas.
According to accountancy and business advisory firm PKF, Australia’s small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) can benefit from targeting people who have recently moved to Australia from abroad. These people are mainly skilled and are eligible for an Australian working visa.
PKF’s latest Business and Population Monitor has found that the country’s growth rate has been 1.9 per cent so far in 2009, with 253,000 newcomers.
PKF claims that this immigration into Australia has caused a population ‘mini-boom’ and is enabling Australia to spend its way out of the recession. Mathew Field, PKF’s director of enterprise advisers, explains, "More people equal more customers. Part of the reason why Australians are spending 7% more at the shops than they were when this crisis first hit, is that there are now 2% more Australians than when the crisis hit.”
He goes on to suggest that SMEs should target regions where populations have grown the most, such as certain areas of Sydney. He expands, "what SMEs need to do is recognise that popular growth impacts on their business. They need a smart business operation that will take advantage of the enormous opportunities to them and make smart decisions."
Major growth areas for SMEs, according to Field, include home-ware and home-improvement retailing and construction. Those industries have seen a surge in applications for working visas from immigrants wanting to move to Australia.
