Migration program to establish Online community

March 29 2010 by Liam Clifford

The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) plan to set-up a website/online community that will address issues surrounding migrants and encourage the positive aspects of immigration.

The ‘online’ initiative will aim to bring together the international community and showcase ‘good practices’ of immigration from around the world. This, it is hoped, will encourage an ongoing code of practice for migrants and a reference for those involved in migrating to another country.

One of the aims of the community will be “…improving integration and cohabitation between migrants and host societies worldwide,

With the purpose of improving understanding and co-operation among peoples of different cultures and countering extremism.”

The immigration organizations are currently collecting information and good practices of integration for posting on the online community. They are asking all relevant sources for their input on the project, this includes current governments, societies, private sector businesses and academic institutions.

The joint venture will be launched on 28 May 2010; the planned venue will be the Global Forum of the Alliance of Civilization in Rio De Janeiro.
