More demand for work visa holders likely as Australian economy and employment recovers
October 09 2009 by Liam Clifford
Demand for Australian work visas set to rise as the economy strengthens.
As Australia becomes one of the first countries to emerge from the other side of
the global recession, with employment and interest rates rising once more, the
demand for skilled Australian work visa holders is also set to rise.
Analysts in
Australia predict that applications for Australian visas will rise as the future looks rosy for the country and signs emerge
that the employment rate is now on the rise. Central bankers have increased base
interest rates and believe that economic recovery will be sped up as a result of
AUS$22 billion of government spending along with an increase in the demand for
commodities in China.
Along with this upturn are expected to come severe
skills shortages in some industries. A report published by Hays Group, a
recruitment firm, yesterday stated that acute skills shortages are being
experienced in the finance and accountancy industries, as well as among
insurance, mortgage brokers and risk officers. Further shortages are being
experienced among engineering, HR, retail and infrastructure engineering
professions.
As a result of this, the economy may well become even more
dependent on its ability to attract skilled foreigners to come and work on Australian work visas and,
as a result, Australian visas for skilled people are likely to be available in
abundance.
