More US student visas for Chinese

US saya it plans to increase the number of chinese students issued US visas
Jon Huntsman, the US ambassador
in China, says that the US is keen to boost the number of student exchanges that
take place with China.
In advance of President Obama’s scheduled trip to
China, Huntsman says that increasing the number of US visas available
for young Chinese students, in return for more Chinese student visas for young
Americans, will help to enhance mutual understanding among the younger
generations of both countries.
Huntsman told Chinese reporters, “already
there are probably 70,000 or 80,000 Chinese students in the United States, but
it will be great if we could, over the next several years, enhance the number of
students," living in the US and "...going back and forth.”
Chinese students have welcomed the news
as many have desires to study in the US but still find it difficult to obtain the neccessary US
visa for students. They hope that this new plan may result in a relaxation of the
tight visa restrictions on Chinese students moving to the US.
Obama’s
visit is scheduled to begin in Shanghai on Sunday. He is expected to speak of
his intentions to improve understanding between the two super powers. Hunstman
says Obama, "will be the first to point out that good relationships are driven
by people who better understand one another and therefore have a deeper sense of
trust".
