Australia has become a popular destination for foreigners of differing religious and ethnic backgrounds because of its atmosphere of freedom

Neven Bondokji, a 29 year old woman from Jordan decided to move to Australia to study.  She could have gone to the United States of America or the United Kingdom, but chose to go through Australian immigration instead.  She has found the nation's atmosphere of multiculturalism and openness to be friendly had she says has been made to feel welcome.

Bondokji is on an Australia visa at the University of Sydney and is reading for a Doctorate in Peace and Conflict studies.  She says that small things such as there being a room for praying in on the campus makes her stay more at ease.

She said this about her move:  "As a Muslim woman wearing the scarf, studying, living and working in Sydney has been very comfortable because of its multicultural ambience. It makes my family in Jordan comfortable, too, that I am not alone - on campus or in the streets with a scarf.  Studying in Australia has opened my eyes to different experiences and world views. Here, I have met more Asians, Pacific Islander and South Americans than I would have in the UK, and that has given me an insight into people from other cultures."

Education is Australia’s third largest export industry and is worth $16 billion, with 435,000 international students from 200 different countries currently studying in Australia.

Australia has a high standard of educational institutes and can provide a relatively cheap study experience, which only add to it’s popularity for migrants.
