The creation of a new advisory board for Australian immigration has been announced. The board will guide the Migration Agents Registration Authority (MARA), which was established in July.
Senator Chris Evans, minister for Immigration and Citizenship for Australia, made the announcement this week that a new advisory board comprised of top level immigration experts will guide MARA and help create more confidence in the new organisation.
The board will be chaired by Robert Cornall, former lawyer and secretary of the Attorney-General's department. Also on the board is Glenn Ferguson, Ferguson Cannon Lawyers, representing the Law Council of Australia; Andrew Holloway, Victoria University, representing the university sector, and Jim McKiernan, former senator, representing the community sector.
There will also be a representative from the department of Immigration and Citizenship.
At this stage it is currently unknown what the direct effects of the board will be on applying for an Australia visa.
