New Canadian student visa scheme promoted in South Asia

A high-profile immigration lawyer is currently in Sri Lanka promoting the Canadian Experience Class to students wishing to study and work in Canada.
The Canadian Experience Class scheme was introduced in summer 2008 and is intended to encourage educated foreigners to study in Canada and then remain living and working in Canada after their studies. The programme allows them to enter a fast-track application process for permanent residency while residing in the country.
Canadian immigration lawyer, D. Russ Makepeace, is touring South Asia to raise awareness among young people and families who may wish to move to Canada, of the new scheme that may allow them to do so. He points out that the new scheme allows students to work off-campus during their studies which will make the prospect of moving to Canada more realistic for some.
Makepeace is also keen to explain how the Canadian Experience Class programme may enable an entire family to settle in Canada. He explains, “with the new policy in place a family which wants to make a living in Canada can send their children for higher education to the country and after three years once the children secure their permanent residency they can sponsor the family.”
