New Zealand change visa requirements for Taiwan

November 19 2009 by Liam Clifford

New Zealand follows in the footsteps of the UK and Ireland this year in allowing visa-free travel for Taiwanese passport holders.

New Zealand is the third country this year to allow visitors from Taiwan visa-free travel when staying in the country for less than 3-months. They follow behind the UK and Ireland who have both relaxed their visa requirements for the country.

In an announcement yesterday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or MOFA for short, said that from November 30th, passport holders from Taiwan travelling to New Zealand will no-longer require a New Zealand visa before they travel.

The foreign minister of Taiwan, as a reciprocal measure, said that the government would now extend its current policy for New Zealand passport holders and visa-free travel from the current 30 to 90 days.

33 countries now offer the visa-free privileges to Taiwan across the world.

The New Zealand Commerce and Industry Office released a statement saying the New Zealand visa waiver program "…should facilitate the further growth of tourism, education and trade links."
