Football fans from Nigeria can breathe a sigh of relief as South Africa assure fans of their eligibility for South African visas.
Nigerian citizens have been assured of their eligibility to apply
for South African tourist visas. The assurance from Mr. Kingsley Mamabolo, South
African High Commissioner in Nigeria, is good news for football fans who want to
buy tickets for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The event runs from June 11th to July
11th.
Mr. Mamabolo said: "We don't expect visitors coming for the World
Cup to encounter problems concerning visa procurement, for that we've introduced
event visa to ensure easy entry in to South Africa and also match tickets will
serve as entry papers."
The Commissioner added that his own country was
ready to host the World Cup: "The time has come for Africa not just South Africa
to show their readiness for the World Cup. We've proved that we're ready." He
said that major infrastructure work required for the tournament is finished, and
that guarantees to FIFA relating to the development schedule were all met.
The Commissioner was keen to assure Nigerians of their safety, should
they choose to apply for South African visas. He said that the World Cup
security network had been improved and that FIFA had seen the security
arrangements and rated them highly. "About $100m was spent to secure the
country, so the safety of our visitors is guaranteed," he said.
