No South African immigration checks
Soccer fans from overseas making the move to South Africa for the FIFA World Cup in 2010 will avoid having to go through immigration when they arrive in the country.
Passengers instead will have their details and South African visas checked before they board their flights in their home countries. The new immigration rules are part of an advance passenger processing agreement with SITA, the global IT specialists.
The SITA system will speedily process the arrival of around 500,000 soccer fans and will enhance security for fans making the move to South Africa.
Khodr Akil, vice-president for SITA Middle East and Africa, said:. "For the government of the Republic of South Africa, eliminating the need to turn people back after they have arrived in the country without the appropriate entry documents will streamline administration and enhance security,"
The SITA border management system has been implemented in other parts of the world, including the 2000 Olympic Games in Australia.
